We are looking for someone who is a passionate graphic designer, results-driven, creative, and motivated to make a difference. You will be based in Kathmandu, Nepal, and working in a cross-cultural, impact-oriented environment, primarily focusing on conceptualizing and producing a variety of communication materials. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who values delivering impact through visual communication, is passionate about mountains and people, and is committed to helping build a greener, more inclusive, climate-resilient Hindu Kush Himalaya as ICIMOD moves into its new Strategy 2030 period from 2023.
You will be placed within our Communications Unit, which serves as a resource for the organisation in communications, outreach, and engagement activities, all in line with the ICIMOD branding policy.
Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Senior Editor and the unit head, the Graphic Design Associate will perform the following tasks:
- Design and layout of general and technical publications according to the ICIMOD branding, including identifying and selecting appropriate photographs, creating illustrations and icons, and recreating figures
- Work within ICIMOD’s branding guidelines in laying out event-related materials (banners, name tags, flyers, posters, invitations, etc.)
- Maintain complete digital backup files of all products prepared
- Prepare press-ready files and liaise with external printers to ensure quality and timely delivery
- Ensure postproduction file archiving internally and externally on ICIMOD's HimalDoc repository
- Maintain digital copies of all products
- Perform other duties as required in the unit
- Work together harmoniously within the production team
- Work as a team player within the unit in general and support communication activities at ICIMOD
- Keep up to date with latest developments in the field of desktop publishing and graphic design
Minimum qualifications and requirements
- A master’s degree in a design-related field or a related field with a minimum of two years of work experience. A first-level university degree in combination with four years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Two years of work experience in a design-related field
- Proficient with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and sound knowledge of design and layout concepts, strategies, tools, and information technology

Duration
One year, with a probation period of three months, starting as early as possible, with a possibility of extension subject to performance and ICIMOD’s future funding levels.
Remuneration
Salaries and benefits at ICIMOD are competitive compared with other international organisations. Remuneration is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
