Media and Communication Specialist

Education qualification and experience:

  • Master Degree with minimum 3 years of experience in media and communication roles, preferably in an international development or non - profit context. This experience might include media relations, communication, increase engagement and followers in social media.
  • Bachelor Degree with 5 years of experience in the relevant sector.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of development communications, media environment and practice in Nepal, trend, challenges and opportunities; 
  • Experience in engaging with youth especially designing and disseminating youth targeted communications; 
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English and Nepali with the ability to communicate with a range of audiences;
  • Knowledge of media landscape and contacts within the Nepalese media industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and persuasive content.


Knowledge:

  • Contextual: Ability to understand the context that Plan International is working in Nepal especially the role of media as a key stakeholder;
  • Knowledge and trends in digital and social media marketing. Familiarity with digital communication platforms, social media channels, and tools for creating and scheduling content;
  • Media management: Proficiency in managing relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers. This includes pitching stories, coordinating interviews, and managing press releases.
  • Youth engagements: understanding of the various trends that youths are attracted towards and crafting communications messages and plans to engage them.  


Skills:

  • Listening: Ability to listen to program staff, partners, programme participants in a sensitive and participatory way so as to bring out compelling stories to pitch to media and other relevant audiences.
  • Adaptability and flexibility: Ability to operate effectively under challenging circumstances.  Willing to travel up to 25% of time, sometimes to very remote project areas.
  • People Skills: Ability to provide support to program teams and partners in media and communication. 
  • Communication Skills: Well developed written and oral communication skills in both English and Nepali. Able to communicate to wider audiences clearly and sensitively about Plan International’s work.
  • Integrity: Works with trustworthiness, integrity and has a clear commitment to Plan International’s core values;
  • Interpersonal: empathetically interact, communicate, and collaborate with others and is an active listener and possesses emotional intelligence
  • Multimedia Skills: Proficiency in working with various forms of media, including photography, videography, and graphic design. 
  • Communication Skills: Ability to develop key messages and narratives for varied and wide range of stakeholders, including media and donors.
