Duration: 18 person-months (1.5 calendar years).
Duty Station: Project cluster area (Any among Humla/Jumla/Jajarkot-Salyan/Dolpa).
Education: Bachelor’s degree, or Diploma in Civil engineering with substantial relevant experience in rural water supply and sanitation, or relevant engineering subjects.
Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Nepali.
Experience and skills:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience;
- Extensive experience in the feasibility study, detailed engineering survey, scheme design, cost estimation, implementation, monitoring, and quality control of gravity-fed water supply systems;
- Good experience in the feasibility study, detailed engineering survey, design, cost estimation, implementation, monitoring, and quality control of solar lifting, electrical lifting, and MUS systems;
- Good experience in survey, design, cost estimation, implementation, monitoring, and quality control of institutional (Schools, Health posts, public) toilets;
- Experience in Water Safety Plan, water quality issues, and water quality parameters testing;
- Knowledge of cross-cutting issues like CCA/DRR and GEDSI;
- Demonstrated computer skills including MS Excel, Auto-CAD, water supply design software; and
- Training and facilitation skills.
Duties:
- Support to ensure the quality of WASH infrastructures on the assigned cluster and municipalities of the project;
- Support WASH unit staff on detailed surveys, design, cost estimation, preparation of bill of quantities and measurement book and ensure construction materials quality of WASH infrastructures;
- Involve in critical schemes’ detailed surveys, design, cost estimation, and support on the implementation of such large gravity-fed systems, solar lifting, electrical lifting, and MUS systems;
- Support design, cost estimation, and quality assurance of GEDSI-friendly water supply service points at communities and institutions, sanitation and hygiene facilities at institutions and public places;
- Ensure construction materials and construction quality of each scheme along with respective WASH unit team members by visiting frequently at construction sites;
- Engage in the scheme monitoring with the WASH unit team members and support for quality work;
- Regular cross-checking of WUSC minute book, bookkeeping system, scheme book etc, and advice to the field team and WUSCs to maintain the quality;
- Integration of CCA/DRR design dimensions into relevant technical planning, design, implementation, post-construction and monitoring processes;
- Technical support on WSP+++ and Service support center-related activities as needed;
- Technical auditing and following up, supervision of construction of water supply and institutional sanitation facilities;
- Support on training materials preparation and training to WASH unit staff;
- Support WASH advisors on technical matters for the quality control of WASH infrastructures, monitoring, and capacity-building activities as and when needed; and
- Other duties as assigned by the Technical Specialist.
